Brokers are your gateway to the market. Modern brokers like Fidelity, Schwab, and Robinhood offer commission-free trading and user-friendly apps. Choose one with low fees, good customer service, and the features you need. Don't overthink it - most major brokers are excellent.
Stock prices are driven by supply and demand. When more people want to buy than sell, prices rise. Expectations matter as much as reality - a company can report "good" earnings and still see its stock drop if results were lower than expected. Short-term price moves are mostly noise.
Risk and return are inseparable. Higher potential returns come with higher potential losses. Diversification is your best defense - by owning many stocks through index funds, no single company failure can ruin you. Your age and timeline determine how much risk is appropriate.
Avoid the classic beginner mistakes. Don't try to time the market, don't panic sell during drops, and don't chase "hot" stocks after they've already risen. Use market orders for liquid ETFs and limit orders for volatile stocks. Build a diversified portfolio and stay the course.
